I’ve put together a useful buying guide to talk you through what to consider when looking at these products.


The first thing to look at is the outlets that come with the device. This is the most important thing as it will directly affect what you can run. With this capacity of inverter, you get two types of outlets – AC and USB. 

The AC outlets are just like your wall plugs at home where you plug in most of your appliances. Inverters have these too and you will often find 1 or 2 of them. If you want to run multiple AC appliances then it is best to get a product with at least two of these outlets.

In addition, most modern products come with USB ports. The amount and type can vary a little. If you just want to charge a phone then a single USB port should do fine but if you have lots of portable gadgets look for more USB ports, or even Type-C fast charging.

Ease of Installation

These products should be very easy to hook up and use. Generally, you should need little technical knowledge and start converting DC to AC on the go. 

If you want the easiest installation look for either alligator clips or cigarette lighter plug cables. The alligator clips allow you to hook up directly to your battery by attaching the red to red (positive to positive) and black to black (negative to negative) – This will allow you to draw full capacity.

Another specification you will come across when researching inverters is continuous power and peak power. You should be looking for 750 watts of continuous power, this is the max amount of power you will be able to draw for long periods of time.

Peak power for a 750W inverter is usually 1500W. An inverter is only able to supply peak power for a few seconds to help deal with power surges. Don’t expect an inverter to provide peak power for more than 5 seconds.

Pure Sine Wave vs Modified Sine Wave

Unfortunately, it is very hard to find 750 watt inverters that provide pure sine wave output. The choice of products in this capacity is quite limited. If you want pure sine wave I suggest you look at 1000 watt inverters.

The products reviewed above are all modified sine wave inverters so they will not be able to run the most sensitive electronics such as medical equipment. Adding to this, using them with motors or inductive loads such as tools or refrigerators is not ideal and leads to higher operating temperatures.

How many amps does a 750 watt inverter draw?

At maximum load, a 750 watt inverter draws 62.5 amps from a 12V battery.

To work out how many amps any device or appliance draws you simply need to divide watts by volts. The formula is Watt ÷ Volt = Amp.

This means if you draw a max load of 750W from a 12V battery the calculation is 750 ÷ 12 = 62.5 Amps.

Of course, the number of amps drawn would change if you used a 24V or 48V battery so simply use the formula above to get your answer. The amps drawn also change depending on the wattage you are drawing from the inverter. You won’t always be using 750 watts.

Protip: Don’t get confused with amps input and output. The input is how many amps you draw from the battery. The output is the amps you send to your appliances after the 12V DC to 120V AC conversion. Your output amps would be much lower as the voltage is much higher. The output amps will be 750W ÷ 120V = 6.25A

What size fuse for 750 watt inverter?

You will need a fuse bigger than 62.5 amps for a 750 watt inverter. It is recommended to use a fuse around 25% bigger than the max amps of an inverter, so you should use at least a 100A fuse for this size inverter.

Will a 750 watt inverter run a refrigerator?

Yes, a 750 watt inverter will be able to run some refrigerators. On average a home refrigerator uses between 300 – 700 watts depending on efficiency.

What size wire do I need for a 750 watt inverter?

It is best to use either a 6 or 8 gauge (AWG) size wire for a 750 watt inverter. Anything smaller will not be able to cope with the amperage and anything bigger could lead to a drop in voltage.

Will a 750 watt inverter run a coffee maker?

You will struggle to run most coffee machines with a 750 watt inverter. Most coffee machines require over 1000 watts of power.
